H.E. Ahmad Shah Sadat the acting McIT Minister Meets NITPAA Leadership

As part of NITPAA’s continues efforts to promote and facilitate collaboration and cooperation in the ICT sector of Afghanistan, NITPAA President Mr. Ahmad Waleed Khaliqi and BoT members Mr. Said Zazai, Mr. Javid Hamdard and Mr. Qudratullah HIwadpal had a detailed introductory meeting with H.E. Ahmad Shah Sadat, the acting McIT Minister.

During this one hour long friendly and productive meeting NITPAA representatives briefed the MCIT Minister about NITPAA’s history, structure, mission of statement, past activities, achievements and future plans; the brief was welcomed and endorsed by the Minister and he thanked NITPAA representatives for NITPAA’s activities and contributions to the ICT sector of Afghanistan and encouraged NITPAA to continue their valuable efforts for the promotion and development of the ICT sector of Afghanistan especially in partnership with other similar entities including MCIT.

H.E Ahmad Shah Sadat then informed NITPAA representatives about the Ministry’s plans and agenda about a series of, soon to be implemented, fundamental reforms and developments in the ICT sector of Afghanistan including the follow-up and implementation of the ‘Open Access Policy’, the initiating of the 4G licensing for the improvement of data services in the country, the follow-up and implementation of a national Internet Exchange Point (IXP) and more.

Considering the meeting very productive and informative, the MCIT Minister suggested that similar coordination meetings should happen on regular monthly basis between NITPAA representatives and MCIT leadership to further coordination and collaboration between the two entities. Furthermore, the Minister agreed to a suggestion by the NITPAA representatives that NITPAA should further facilitate coordination between MCIT and other relevant entities including the private sector and academia; the Minister also agreed for NITPAA to arrange and facilitate ICT related gatherings and Q&A sessions which will be attended by senior MCIT leadership including the Minister himself.

Additionally, when briefed about NITPAA’s upcoming SIG event, the Minister warmly welcomed the initiative as a valuable and important event for the sector and promised that MCIT will not only technically support the event but suggested that NITPAA should coordinate the details of the event with MCIT particularly ATRA also for possible financial support and sponsorship of the event by MCIT.

Ahmad Waleed Khaliqi

Mr. Khaliqi is expecting his bachelor's degree in Computer Science in mid-2017 from a leading private university in Kabul. He is certified in MCITP and has academic qualifications in CCNA, CCNP and CCIP. He has Diploma in Information Technology (DIT), Diploma in Business Administration (DBA) and Diploma in Accounting (DIA). While doing his degree courses, He is also a full time employee of Afghan Ministry of Information and Culture as an IT officer and has several years of professional experience with his current employer Bakhtar News Agency as senior IT officer and web Administrator. He writes articles for media and has great skills in online/offline journalism and blogging. Mr. Ahmad Waleed represented NITPAA and Afghanistan at India School of Internet Governance and ICANN 57 in Oct-Nov 2016 in India. Mr. Ahmad Waleed joined NITPAA back in 2015 as a regular member but, in a short period of time he was able to make it to NITPAA executive board. His passion for ICT, and commitment, dedication and immense achievements in executive board were visible to all and soon he was appointed as chair of NITPAA Public Awareness Committee by NITPAA leadership. In an early election by NITPAA main and executive boards’ members Mr. Khaliqi was elected as president of NITPAA for the year 2017.
