Web and Social Media presence has become a key part of an organization’s digital footprint. In our present connected world, accessible and effective public relations channels are necessary for community communication and participation in interactive conversations.

National IT Professionals Association of Afghanistan (NITPAA) has tried different means of communication to interact with its existing members and attract new members to enlarge the community and keep all members connected. As part of these endeavor NITPAA launched its website, Facebook pages and groups, and has a presence on twitter as well. As the community is growing day by day, NITPAA management feels that there should be some rules and guidelines on using the social media and administering and moderating the Websites, to ensure the security and privacy of its members and moderate the sequence and flow of the discussions to the field and prevent unnecessary and related posts, thus for this reason the first version of NITPAA’s Social Media and Website Policy and Guidelines was drafted and presented to the board for the final approval. The purpose of these Policies and Guidelines is to ensure that the NITPAA Facebook group and page, YouTube channel, Twitter account and all other social media accounts and websites are used for business purposes in accordance with association’s policies, procedures, and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. It is intended to protect both the association and its members from possible liability.

According to the policy document, content outside the domain of information and communication technology (e.g. politics, religion, literature and their kin), advertisements, product promotion and personality promotion cannot be posted. Furthermore, this document describes the role and responsibilities of the administrators and moderators of the social media platforms and websites, and how administrators or moderators will be appointed.

Use of association’s social networks and websites is a privilege that may be revoked at any time for inappropriate conduct, members are therefore expected to act responsibly and to avoid violating the enacted policies.
