Online Workshop on Introduction to Internet Governance

NITPAA has successfully established a partnership with ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) for a series of training workshops by the ICANN staff themselves. Learn more about ICANN at www.icann.org

These workshops will be held via video conferencing facilities. The topic of the first workshop is “Internet Governance”.

Internet governance is the development and application by all stakeholders in their respective roles, of shared principles, norms, rules, decision-making procedures, and programs that shape the evolution and use of the Internet. It consists of several key pillars; called “Baskets”, such as Access, Openness, Critical Internet Resources, Human Rights and Privacy, Security, and others.

In today’s world, more than 3 billion inhabitants access the Internet for information, and understanding the governance of this large network and contributing to its development is crucial to its evolvement. By the year 2020, the number of Internet users is expected to grow to 5 billion, and so the dynamics of Internet Governance might change.

The 2-hour interactive lecture will define Internet Governance, Introduce the Key Stakeholders, shed some light on the key baskets of Internet Governance, and explore that various “I* Organizations” that are involved in Internet Governance.

The workshop will be delivered by Mr. Fahd Batayneh from ICANN.
